Wei Cui is an Associate Professor at UBC’s Peter A. Allard School of Law and currently Director of the Center for Asian Legal Studies. Before joining the UBC faculty in 2013, he practiced tax law in both New York and Beijing, including as Senior Tax Counsel for the China Investment Corporation during 2009-2010.

He has served as a policy advisor to the United Nations, the Budgetary Affairs Commission of China’s National People’s Congress, and China’s Ministry of Finance and State Administration of Taxation, among other government agencies, and is currently a member of the Eminent Expert Group on Tax Policy and Public Expenditure Management for Sustainable Development, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

He has held visiting professorships at the law schools of Michigan, Northwestern, Columbia, and Melbourne Universities. Wei Cui’s research interests include tax law and policy, law and development, law and economics, and Chinese law and political economy.
