Quinton Huang is an MA student in the Department of History. Born and raised in Kitimat, BC (unceded Haisla territory) and Vancouver (unceded MST territories), he studies migration, displacement, and transnational communities in maritime and littoral East and Southeast Asia from the 18th to 20th centuries. His current thesis research project revolves around the political cultures and socioeconomic networks of squatter settlements in postwar Hong Kong as a way to intervene in the transnational urban history of late colonialism and the Cold War in East and Southeast Asia. He had been an exchange student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and researches in English, written Standard Chinese, Cantonese, Mandarin, literary Sinitic, French, Vietnamese, Latin and Manchu.
